When You Wish Upon a Pass, Your Dreams May Come True
Not sounding like a cliche, but when we were kids we’re always told to wish upon a star and your dreams will come true. Now, I am not just wishing upon a star… I AM ALSO WISHING UPON A SEMCON PASS to see great men of SEO world and that my dreams will come true.
When I first saw the banner of Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Conference in one of the site i accidentally visited, my eyes gleamed. Wow, an SEM Conference in Manila! The first international search engine marketing conference in the Philippines.
As the Senior Web Developer of our company, I am being looked upon by my web team to guide them in using new web technologies… and Search Engine Optimization is on their top list.
I consider myself newbie to this field. I just joined the SEO world last year when i joined the first SEO contest in the Philippines, the Isulong SEOPH keyword ranking contest. Having garnered good position rankings in its early campaigns, it fuels my enthusiasm to apply what I’ve learned from the contest to our company websites. Tips from my fellow SEOers, from Matt Cutts, Jim Westergren, Aaron Wall, Marc M., Benj A., et. al.
And true enough, we got top 10 positions to our choice of keywords in major search engines. But my passion was short-lived when I was assigned a project that required my 100% undivided attention and SEO was put aside in favor of this. I saw how our sites plummeted as we loose our ranks in SERP. My SEO knowledge became rusty as months passed… until recently.
The SEMCon banner i saw ignites the passion that was once in me so I immediately restructured my site, now a blog, and placed the SEMCon banner on top of my page befitting of a real banner waving high for everyone to see. “Let’s come to this conference and hear the SEM golden words straight from the lips of the people that institutionalized SEM as they share us how to unlock the secrets to high traffic, and how to achieve high performance websites.” This surely will be a refresher course for me as i strengthen my knowledge once more in Search Engine Optimization and Marketing. It’s about time to start cashing in those cheques from Big Daddy.
But lo, will lightning strike twice?
I have resigned with my company and by next week, i will be starting with a new one. But before we parted our ways earlier today, I just found out that my team saw the SEMCon link banner in my site and have confirmed they will be attending — Company Paid. My heart sank for a while. I know I there is a possibility that I couldn’t attend. I’ll be just beginning to work in my new job plus the registration fee is too expensive for me. I bid them congratulations for they will be attending the most beneficial conference in their lives as a web practicing professionals.
Will i resign to my fate? Will lightning strike twice? I am sure gonna miss my team, my friends, Aaron, Marc, and the good ol’ guys of SEM. Shall I wish upon a star? or upon a PASS? Only time will tell…
